Programme Description

Mr Prasad Godbole outlines the prevalence of nocturnal enuresis and the factors that contribute to its development. Key learning points for GPs and nurses include how to investigate enuresis, and useful interventions in primary care.

  • Distinguish between primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE) and nocturnal enuresis with daytime symptoms
  • Identify the aetiology of bedwetting
  • Investigate PMNE
  • Estimate bladder capacity for children up to the age of 11 years
  • Manage enuresis based on the underlying aetiology
  • Assess psychological problems associated with enuresis
  • Treat with antidiuretics or an anticholinergic drug where indicated
  • Consider indications for referral
