About MIMS Learning and the Clarity & RCGP Appraisal Toolkit for GPs

Share this content:

If you subscribe to The Clarity & RCGP Appraisal Toolkit for GPs, you can now export evidence of your learning directly from the MIMS Learning CPD organiser into the appraisal toolkit.

Previously, notes had to be copied and pasted and certificates manually uploaded to the toolkit. With the click of a button, you can now export certificates and notes straight from MIMS Learning into your current appraisal as well as your portfolio in the appraisal toolkit.

How does it work?

Each learning note in a MIMS Learning user's CPD Organiser ( now displays an “Add To Clarity” button. Clicking this (or touching it, on a mobile device) will export the note to your appraisal toolkit portfolio and their current open appraisal.

The first time you attempt to export a note, Clarity will ask for your Clarity & RCGP Appraisal Toolkit for GPs login details. This will ensure the note is sent securely to the correct account. You will also be asked to give permission for MIMS Learning to communicate with the appraisal toolkit. Thereafter, each note can be exported with a single click.

Exactly what information is transferred?

For each MIMS Learning note, any notes you have written reflecting on your learning will be transferred along with the type of learning, the number of CPD credits being claimed, and any certificate attached to the note.

How secure are my personal details?

No personal details are transferred. The first time you attempt to export a note from MIMS Learning to the appraisal toolkit you will be asked separately to log in to your toolkit account and give permission for MIMS Learning to communicate with it. Only the learning note details are transferred between the accounts.

How do I know which notes have been exported?

Once exported, the Add To Clarity button on the note will change into a label saying Added To Clarity, indicating the note's status.

If I don't have an account on the Clarity & RCGP Appraisal Toolkit for GPs will this give me access to it?

No. You will first need to have an account on the Clarity & RCGP Appraisal Toolkit for GPs.

What if I have never used MIMS Learning before?

You will first need to be a registered user of MIMS Learning. Registering only takes a minute and you can start the process by completing the small form on the home page of (see below).

What about CPD activities I undertake independently of MIMS Learning?

The MIMS Learning CPD Organiser allows you to record notes and evidence of any CPD activities, not just activities undertaken directly on MIMS Learning. You can record notes and evidence of meetings you attend, independent learning, training courses, critical reading and many other types of CPD. These notes can then be transferred to your appraisal toolkit account just as easily as your MIMS Learning activities.

How do I create my own notes in the CPD Organiser?

To create your own notes in the Organiser, go to the My Notes page in the Organiser and then click on the ADD A NOTE button.

Then create a title for your note in the Title field, add the number of CPD credits you are claiming in the Credits field, select the type of CPD you are recording and type your reflection in the main text area. You can also attach documents in PDF format by clicking on the ADD ATTACHMENT button.

Can I re-export notes to the Appraisal Toolkit?

Not at the moment. Once a note has been exported you cannot transfer it again. To update a note further once exported, you will need to do it directly in the Appraisal Toolkit.

I have just exported a note, but the attached certificate doesn't seem to have transferred.

It takes a few minutes for any attachments to transfer. The entry for your note in the Clarity Appraisal Toolkit will say “Document pending” until the attachment has transferred, at which point a Download link will be displayed.
