Dr Richard Brice describes how to implement the NICE guidance on management of type 2 diabetes in adults in primary care. The module outlines what’s new in the guidance and what to do differently in your practice.

This module has been updated to include information on updates to NICE guidance [October 2016].

Educational Objectives

After taking this module, GPs and nurses will be better able to:
  • Recall what’s new and what’s relevant to them in the December 2015 NICE guidance on the management of type 2 diabetes in adults
  • Know what to do differently in practice in the light of the NICE guidance
  • Be aware of the guidance on treating hypertension and the use of antiplatelets in patients with type 2 diabetes
  • Outline the updated recommendations for HbA1c measurement and targets
  • List the current treatment options for type 2 diabetes
  • Consider which types of therapy are suitable for individual patients
