Programme Description

Dr Mike Thurgood describes an update to NICE guidance on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men. The module outlines what’s new in the guidance, which investigations to carry out when assessing men with LUTS, which indications warrant referral to urology and the different treatment options available for managing LUTS.

After taking this module, GPs and nurses will be better able to:
  • Recall what’s new and what’s relevant to them in the NICE guidance on LUTS in men
  • List the possible causes of LUTS
  • Revise their knowledge of which investigations to carry out to assess the severity of LUTS and guide treatment
  • Recognise which indications merit referral to urology
  • Know which treatments to prescribe for differing levels of symptoms and when to review patients
  • Advise patients about the use of tadalafil in treating LUTS
