Programme Description

Dr Sally Higginbottom describes the latest NICE guidance on eating disorders. The module outlines what’s new in the guidance and what to do differently in your practice when diagnosing, referring and managing patients with eating disorders.

Educational Objectives

After taking this module, GPs and nurses will be better able to:
  • Recall what’s new and what’s relevant to them in the NICE guidance on eating disorders
  • Outline acute and chronic physical complications associated with eating disorders
  • List the conditions and behaviours that might be found in patients with eating disorders
  • Refer patients with eating disorders promptly to community-based services
  • Describe the treatment of patients with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa
  • Carry out annual reviews for patients with anorexia nervosa who are not under specialist services
  • Undertake quality improvement activities relating to eating disorders
