Dr Colin Kenny describes how to implement the updated NICE guidance on diabetic foot problems in primary care. The module outlines what’s new in the guidance, what to do differently in your practice, how to assess the diabetic foot as well as discussing areas of uncertainty.

Educational Objectives

After taking this module, GPs and nurses will be better able to:
  • Recall what’s new and what’s relevant to them in the August 2015 NICE guidance on diabetic foot problems
  • Know what to do differently in practice in the light of the NICE guidance
  • Be aware of how to assess a patient with diabetes for diabetic foot problems
  • Be aware of areas of uncertainty and controversy, such as the need for clear referral guidelines
  • Be able to carry out an audit of diabetic foot care in their patients with diabetes
