Dr Toni Hazell describes how to implement the NICE guidance on care of dying adults in the last days of life in primary care. The module outlines what’s new in the guidance, what to do differently in your practice and what to be aware of in terms of multimorbidity.

Educational Objectives

After taking this module, GPs and nurses will be better able to:
  • Recall what’s new and what’s relevant to them in the December 2015 NICE guidance on care of the dying adult in the last days of life
  • Know what to do differently in practice in the light of the NICE guidance
  • Recognise when a person is in the last days of life
  • Be aware of simple measures to maintain hydration at the end of life
  • Manage the symptoms that a patient might experience in the last days of life
