Dr Toni Hazell explains what GPs need to know about NICE guidance on child abuse. This module focuses on what’s new, what to do differently in your practice and how to advise young patients about confidentiality.

After reading this activity, GPs and nurses will be better able to:
  • Recall what’s new and what’s relevant to them in the October 2017 NICE guideline on child abuse and neglect
  • Reflect on the need to explain confidentiality and information sharing to young patients
  • List factors that increase a child or young person’s vulnerability to abuse or neglect
  • Recall alerting features for child abuse or neglect
  • Reflect on dealing with alerting features in the context of general practice
  • Share their knowledge of the guideline with other staff from their practice
